  •  Sheikh Ahmed Ismail Yassin (June 28, 1936 - March 22, 2004) was a preacher, a mujahid, one of the leaders of the Islamic call in Palestine, the founder and president of the largest Islamic university, including the Islamic Academy in Gaza, and the founder of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and its leader until his death. He was born in the village of Al-Joura, in the Al-Majdal District, south of the Gaza Strip. He took refuge with his family in the Gaza Strip after the 1948 war. He had an accident in his youth while practicing sports, which resulted in complete paralysis of all his limbs. He worked as a teacher of the Arabic language and Islamic education, then worked as a preacher and teacher in the mosques of Gaza. Under the Israeli occupation, he became the most famous orator known in the Gaza Strip due to the strength of his argument and his boldness in truth.
  • When he was twenty years old, he participated in the demonstrations that broke out in Gaza to protest the tripartite aggression that targeted Egypt in 1375 AH, corresponding to 1956, and demonstrated tangible rhetorical and organizational abilities. After the defeat of 1967 AD - 1386 AH, in which Israel occupied all of the Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, Ahmed Yassin continued to incite the feelings of worshipers from the pulpit of the Al-Abbasi Mosque, in which he preached to resist the occupier, and collected donations and aid for the families of the martyrs and detainees.
  • Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was arrested in 1403 AH, corresponding to 1983, on charges of possessing weapons, forming a military organization, and incitement to eliminate the Jewish state from existence. An Israeli court sentenced him to 13 years in prison. He was released in 1405 AH, corresponding to 1985, in a prisoner exchange between the Israeli authorities and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
